I am sure that there are many more as new Social Media sites are being created daily and some catch on while others fail to compete with the big names.
I believe that in order to be a Social Media Consultant the person needs to be knowledgeable in many areas of Social Media and needs to walk the walk.
Many times I have looked up a person who claims to be a Social Media expert only to find that they barely have a following at all in many of the Social Media platforms.
My first step is to Google that person’s name and do research upon the sites that they are active in and check to see who’s following and what exactly that they are doing to become an expert in Social Media.
I am not claiming to be an expert or even a Social Media Consultant, I do however welcome you to Google my name – Tony Lee Hamilton and/or Digital Marketing Veteran to see what I do share and how I do create a following on Social Media Platforms.

Interesting article! I keep seeing Google plus as a social media option. Does Google plus still exist? Every time, I google Google Plus option I get an message from google saying it’s not an option. I see this message…saying something about Google+ for consumer (personal) accounts were shutdown on April 2, 2019..
Do I need to have a business or business account to have a Google Plus social media? Or what?
Either way, I have never heard of some of the social media platforms that you mention here. After reading this article, I have learned that there are more social media platforms than I imagined. So yes, indeed new social media platforms must come and go as you have stated.

There are tons of social media consultants out there that don’t have anyone following them. I’m happy to check you out and learn more about driving traffic with social media. I do tend to find that I waste too much time on some social media websites and others I know absolutely nothing about.

Hi there, Social media is always something I tend to back away from for some reason, however, there is no reason why I should not be taking full advantage of what is out there in order to brand myself just the way you do.

Hi, Tony. Some more golden nuggets from you. Thank you for sharing. Your advice is good and should be followed. There are many “out there” who claims a lot of different skills, also in relation to social media. A good background check is a pre-requisite before following any expert, and the best way to do so, is to check out their sites, and social media profiles and channels to see what they offer.
I have experienced in my short time as an affiliate marketer is that a lot of profiles on social media, no matter which platform it is, the tendency is an overflow of people trying to make quick cash, tricking you into cryptocurrency. every time I have declined such offers, in a kind and polite manner, I don´t get any response or the response is trying to force me into taking their offer.
But there are of course exceptions to this experience which should be saved later or acted upon thee and then.

I have never considered employing a Social Media expert but you bring up some good points here Tony. Once again it’s important to do your research so that you are convinced that they can get you into social media. I guess it follows that they must have established themselves on all the social platforms and have people interested in what they are saying.
It’s something I will look at down the tracks to really ramp up my business. For now, I’m doing most of it myself.
Social media today is critical if you want to reach people from all over the place, word of mouth has a pretty small radius of reach but social media is infinite, you can get to people in every corner of the world. Any online company or business needs to utilize this platform if they have any chance of success.

I actually never thought about that notion. I mean, this idea that there probably, indeed, are many social networks just developing and trying to get a grip of things and rival the real big ones everyone knows. And yeah, I definitely wouldn’t dare to take social marketing advice from someone who doesn’t actually have a whole bunch of followers. It’s like trying to learn piano from a guy who’s never actually played on a big stage or other big gigs. It just makes no sense.

In this age of information and communication, its importan for the business owner, blogger, get their message out.
You have detailed a lot of social media platforms, which at first glance you would think, a couple might not be relevant, but when looked at further, each one covers a specific category, with the exception of Google+ , which I believe Google has scrapped now. That was a shame because lots of Gmail users, myself included used in preference to Facebook.
Social Media Consultant is a loose term that too manuy people apply the title to themselves when they can think of nothing else and a lot of consultants I have met claiming to be one, as you point out, have either minimal or no social media presence at all.

I am not sure whether you can criticize another person’s work or competitor without first contacting them? For example there is reference to LeadFlow 247 as a bad company, can they not sue the person who supposedly is trying to de campaign them?

Social media is used in nearly every form of advertising so it makes perfect sense that there would be so many opportunities on so many different platforms. Still, I find that it is best to focus on just a few and master them first before expanding to more sites. Better to be a master of one than adequate at many.
I agree that in order to be a Social Media Consultant the person needs to be knowledgeable in many areas of Social Media.
I have already joined you on Facebook and YouTube, but I am still very weak regarding my activity on social networks, this is an area that I still need to improve (as part of the training I just stopped at this task, where I have to create accounts on social networks).

Tony, I’m going to agree with you on this one. If you’re branding yourself as a social media consultant, then you should be fluent in a bunch of different platforms. I can understand specializing in a specific platform, but you definitely need to be versatile. Being a social media consultant and only working on one platform is like calling yourself a chef when all you do is cook burgers all day.

I am a marketing consultant and to be honest, I’m left with a lot of questions here. This article really lacks value. You didn’t really address anything about making the connection with other.
making the right connection correctly will prove to be the missing link in you outreach process. Now with that said . it doesn’t really matter what social platform you use to make connections. I all boils down to how you present the opportunity to connect with others.
Google the other person? No. That’s not the best way to go about building a relationship. You want to personalize the interaction. From there you can gather the appropriate information from the individual through regular conversation.

Social media are something I tried to skip my whole life. Of course, until I became a marketer! If you use social media the right way you can meet a lot of interesting people, and this is the part I love – that actually should be the core characteristic of social media. Until I started my business, I thought that social media were a place where you waste a lot of time, but i changed my mind: I met a lot of valuable professionals and generous business people on social, and precisely for this reason what you say is true: if you start your social media doing some research related to the people you follow, you can make the most out of social relationships!

Hello Tony! I always knew there were ways to advertise one’s online business through social media. There is so much social media platforms that are available out there and it is sometimes easy to lose track of them especially since a new kind pops out every now and then. I am still in the age where Facebook was more popular but nowadays there are so many more new ones that came out since that time. Googling a person certainly tells you right away if he or she is social media presence or not. However, even if a whole list of sites with their names pop up, does that still mean that they are successful social media consultants or that that they just have many social media accounts? The amount of their followers will probably tell, right? Thank you so much for sharing all these social media sites, there are so many. I think it’s important to note that what platform you use could depend on your niche and where the person you are trying to speak too hangs out. I use Instagram and facebook right now personally.
This is a question that needs to be answered because it is important to know the answers when one decides to pursue his career in the online advertising and marketing field. There are three aspects that make up what is known as a Social Media Consultant. The first aspect is the need for a person to be a social animal that enjoys meeting new people and having a good time. It is not enough for a person to just be sociable. He or she should also be able to relate to the people that they deal with on a regular basis so that they can build relationships.
Another thing that a Social Media Consultant must have is good listening skills. Since there will be clients and potential clients, the consultant should be able to listen to what is being said and respond appropriately. The consultant should also be able to explain to the client what his or her options are. If a client feels as if he or she is being taken advantage of, it is best for the consultant to get the client to express their feelings. This will help the client feel heard and understood.
Lastly, the Social Media Consultant should be able to write well. It is not enough for a person to say that he or she is an expert because that will not get him or her anywhere. A consultant should be able to put down words to people. Since the consultant has to work with clients, he or she should be able to write well and be able to communicate well so that the client knows that he or she is getting good service from the company.

Any online business “lives” due to traffic, and to get the most organic traffic is through social media. The problem is that there are so many platforms, and you need a lot of time to post on each of them that, most of the time, you give up or feel that you need a social media consultant. At least that’s my case.

Well, certainly. In order to be a social media consultant, you should have at least first hand experience on lots of social media platforms. I actually aspired to be one but I just cannot keep up with the latest trends and updates and that’s why I chose not to pursue it. But I think it has a good return, so investing to be a social media consutant is a good career.

However, it is not necessary for one Social Media Consultant to be an expert in every one of these fields. In fact, a Social Media Consultant could be more successful if they focused on a narrow area and become extremely good at it.

Did not know there were that many social media sites, I am using only 4. I consider Twitter as a media that does not work very well for my business. Does it work for you? The ones that really matter to me are FB, Pinterest, LinkedIn and to a lesser extent Instagram, which is not very well operable without a mobile with the app. Do you have any recommendation for one of the others for me to use?

The title has been adulterated, the fact that someone has numerous social media pages doesn’t make them consultants, also, the fact that someone has been on a social network for a long time doesn’t validate their being consultants. I’m not a social media expert but I’m trying to build an audience I can serve. I just started with a page on FaceBook. I now have have 150 followers. I know this is not enough, but I’m trying. Normally i prefer to blog my post on other company that has used social media successfully and get feedback soon, I reached out to community manager of my similar type niche and ask them for my own time and also I prefer more to contact with gurus like you, both ways of them it help me to be more experienced and happy to do online business.
Social media is the word of mouth of the 21st century. There are many traditional ways to build a following for a brand, but through sharing, retweet, copying…. what is done on a particular social media platform, a message can circulate around the world almost instantly. In the past, I have interviewed for digital marketing coordinator and management positions, and just as you suggest, they always Google your name and review what kind of presence you keep online. One of the main things they look at and consider is how many followers or network connections you have on your social media profiles. I know for LinkedIn and Facebook, they won’t even consider you unless you have a thousand or more connections.

I haven’t checked all your social media platforms but I can see your Instagram has almost 30k followers, very impressive!! I’m sure we’d all like to know how you do it?? I’m only on insta and Facebook at the moment for my fitness business but maybe I need to get out there and open accounts on other social media platforms as well. The more the merrier, right?
I am getting comfortable with my social media involvement but, clearly there is much more to be done. There are so many platforms that you listed that I never heard about. Also there is much more I can do on the 3 platforms on which I am a member. I manage facebook quite well and post on instagram now and then. I have yet to find out how to get followers on Twitter. Social Media consultants is a broad field if we compare it now to many years ago, we could become an expert in one social media platform only, or master all of them. Personally, I think focusing on one platform is already a very powerful niche, for example, Facebook. Yes, I like you believe that Social Media is a really important part of marketing more now than ever. I must admit I use 6 different channels which I do find relatively difficult to keep up with. I am no expert in all of the them but find Facebook a better option for me and also my audience. I learn and try to develop all the time on the others.

The principles of building a network are the same. However, it is not necessary for one Social Media Consultant to be an expert in every one of these fields. In fact, a Social Media Consultant could be more successful if they focused on a narrow area and become extremely good at it.
This also applies to the various Social Media Platforms. In my opinion, it is possible to become an expert in one, say Facebook and then move on to another like Pinterest and become an expert in that.
There are no limits to the opportunities anyone can have in this world of Social Media.

Great point tony! There are too many phonies out there who speak a big game and have zero knowledge of the field. Fiverr is inundated with these types. I new of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Pinterest. There is a lot of platforms that you can go out and either make money or just put yourself out there for business or for fun. Now a days every business checks the social platforms to see if their candidates are doing anything unprofessionally. So you have to be careful what you put out there because once it is out there you can not remove it. Social media can be to saving grace to people like if some one is getting hurt they video it but they should intervene if possible. Thinking more that could be more dangerous to the person videoing it because the attacker can come after them. But it bring light to certain situations, we don’t think of. Good job.

Social media is the main communication to possible followers/clients/customers for any type of business. There is no doubt that knowledge of social media platforms is essential in today’s world. However, like everything else it takes time to learn to manage the different platforms. I do not believe to be difficult but time consuming. If you have the time to read instructions and play with the different options that each social media platform offers then you can become a social media consultant but remember that the keeping up with the new tricks are the key to success.

Good day, this was a very quick and concise article that changed my mind about my views on social media. Being an expert in one or two platforms is not as important as being fluent in 5 or 6. Many experts receive training in school that is actually outdated within a few years of them leaving that training since social media evolves to quickly nowadays. Social media is always something I tend to back away from for some reason, however, there is no reason why I should not be taking full advantage of what is out there in order to brand myself just the way you do.
I see you are a member of many sites, and I wonder if there is some special software one can purchase to control all these sites, as I find it quite time consuming to post to the four social media sites that I do belong to. I must admit I love Twitter as I find it is an easy to use platform and it is much more interesting than it used to be with the fact that you can now post videos and pictures.

I sometimes pity myself. I am actually one of those who were very slow in joining the Social Media movement. I used to see and hear everything around me revolving around Facebook and Twitter. But I only joined Facebook end of 2010, and Twitter a few years later; WhatsApp mid-2017!
But I have since created and been Admin of so many Social Media groups! We have started, and sometimes completed massive projects through social media.
My regret seeing this article: I wish all that hard work could have employed me!

Social media is a very powerful tool and there seems to be new sites arriving on an almost daily basis. With the amount of time that people do spend online, I am not surprised. And if we are living in lockdown, then social media sites are the only way to connect with friends and make new contacts. There are several social media platforms that you mention here that I am not familiar with, so I will spend time to check them out and connect.
